A Typical Day at an Ayurvedic Retreat (Amal Tamara)
Each day is designed to restore balance in body, mind, and spirit through personalized
treatments, nourishing meals, and holistic practices.
Morning Rituals & Healing Treatments
-
6:30 AM – Morning Chanting & Yoga
Start the day with a short chanting ceremony and Puja, a cleansing fire ritual, followed by a gentle yoga session suitable for all levels. Advanced yoga classes are available upon request.
-
7:45 AM – Herbal Medicine & Sunrise Walk
After yoga, Ayurvedic herbal medicines are administered according to each person’s treatment plan. Enjoy a leisurely walk through Amal Tamara’s lush gardens, watching the sunrise over the serene backwaters.
-
8:30 AM – Breakfast
A wholesome, individually customized breakfast is served.
-
Doctor’s Consultation & Personalized Treatments
Each guest has a thorough daily consultation with the doctor, where symptoms, progress, and responses to treatments are assessed. The first consultation is particularly detailed, as the doctors gain a full understanding of your condition and needs. However, unlike a fixed treatment plan, Ayurvedic healing is highly dynamic - your treatment protocol is adjusted daily based on how your body responds. This ensures a truly personalized and adaptive healing experience, optimizing the benefits of your Panchakarma journey.
-
Therapies & Detox Treatments
Each guest receives a major treatment (approx. 90 minutes) usually in the morning, followed by a lighter session (30 minutes) usually in the afternoon. Treatments vary based on your specific condition, ensuring a deeply personalized healing experience. Each treatment is conducted by 2 therapists simultaneously.
Afternoon & Evening Activities
-
12:30 PM – Lunch & Rest Time
A delicious individual prepared 3 course Ayurvedic lunch is served between 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM, followed by free time to rest, read, or simply absorb the peaceful surroundings.
-
4:00 PM – Tea by the Pool & Learning Sessions
Gather by the pool for a cup of ginger coffee or tea and small Ayurvedic snacks. Often, an Ayurvedic cooking session is held afterwards, where guests learn how to prepare nourishing Ayurvedic meals at home. Alternatively, a resident doctor may give an engaging talk on Ayurveda, answering questions about its principles and benefits.
-
6:00 PM – Guided Meditation
A deeply restorative meditation session is conducted in the yoga studio or the air-conditioned meditation room.
-
6:30 PM – Dinner
Dinner is served from 6:30 PM, featuring a personalized three-course Ayurvedic meal, prepared by a master chef. For every meal each guest receives a customized menu, reflecting their specific dietary needs. Room service is also available for all meals, as well as fresh coconut water, ginger coffee, or herbal tea (subject to doctor’s approval).
-
Evening Wind-Down
After dinner, guests retire to their rooms for a restful night’s sleep, rejuvenating for another day of healing.
Note that we’ll have a table set up for us to take our meals together as a group to share our
experiences, however, some prefer to spend time in silence on their own and there are enough
tables to do just that.
During the retreat my duty is to ensure that everyone is comfortable and that all their needs
are met, and I function as a link between the centre and each individual. However, the trained
staff at Amal Tamara (or at any other Ayurvedic Centre) are well capable of holding each
individual process and needs.
The Duration of Your Panchakarma Retreat
-
A minimum of 14 days is required for a full Panchakarma detox, but I recommend at least 17 days to avoid feeling rushed.
- Traditionally, a 28-day Panchakarma is ideal, but from my experience, 21 days strikes the perfect balance.
Cultural Exploration in Kochi (Post-Retreat Experience)
At the end of our stay at Amal Tamara, we will transfer to Kochi for a 4-day cultural
immersion experience staying in an accommodation of your choice. Kochi has a range of
accommodation ranging from budget to international 5 star, whatever your preference.
But if
in agreement we can all stay at the same place. The best area is to stay is fort Kochi, the rich
cultural area with many remnants of the post-colonial era.
Kochi, once a major trade port, offers a fascinating blend of cultures influenced by the
Portuguese, Dutch, and British. Our time here will include:
- Exploring historic sites, including the famous Chinese fishing nets and colonial-era architecture
- Visiting spice markets and local craft shops.
- Relaxing in serene cafes overlooking the backwaters.
After these final days of cultural enrichment, our journey concludes, leaving you rejuvenated
and transformed, carrying the wisdom of Ayurveda back home.
Not everyone wants to take part in the cultural exploration of Kochi. Some are time strapped, while others only want to experience the magic of ayurveda and opt to stay their entire time at the centre. The choice is yours.
